STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths education. At Grazeley we focus on these areas together not only because the skills and knowledge in each discipline are essential for student success, but also because these fields are deeply intertwined in the real world and in how students learn most effectively.

What is STEM?

STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths education. At Grazeley we focus on these areas together not only because the skills and knowledge in each discipline are essential for student success, but also because these fields are deeply intertwined in the real world and in how students learn most effectively. 

We aim to make clear and explicit links between the STEM subjects across the curriculum so that pupils at Grazeley understand the real world relevance and uses of what they are learning.

STEM Learning Log (11/03/19)

Stem week 1 has been based on the celebrations around the RAF’s 100 year anniversary and the learning log over half term was for children to research any part of the RAF they wished.

Thank you to all the parents who engaged so wonderfully with this and it has been great to see so much variety in the children’s Learning logs, from posters and presentations to model aircraft and videos.

STEM Week (03/07/19)

We have enjoyed another hugely successful STEM week, with the children engaging in lots of wonderful experiences and being exposed to new ideas and technologies. Once again, we had  some amazing sessions with external STEM providers as well as  being able to rely on lots of parents being willing to give up their time to share their jobs and careers with us.  The list below shows the breadth of careers and concepts the children were able to learn about.

  • Drone flying/programming:  DRONEdays

  • Rocket design: Andrew Thacker (UTC Reading)
  • Flood defences: Heather Taylor (Environmental agency)
  • Obstetrics & surgery: Clare Marsh (NHS)
  • Orthotics: Nick Gallogly (NHS)
  • Game design: Frazer Murrell (Microsoft Xbox department)
  • Coding and STEM design: SAM Labs
  • Programing & problem solving: Nicola Barnes (Landmark Information Group)

It was a fantastic week and so important in continuing to build the children’s understanding of the links between their learning here and the world outside. Please have a look at the attached slide show of photos from the week.
